Participate in Project Life


         Ghost Out:  This project is usually associated with drinking and driving, but it can easily be modified to represent suicide.  What to do
 
 
         Billboards:  Billboards are locally owned.  Get in touch with the groups that own billboards in your area and see if your club could use empty billboards. What to do
 
 
         Posters: Put suicide awareness/prevention posters up in your school or community areas. What to do
 
 
         Speakers:  Invite someone with experience dealing with suicide to speak to your school or club.
       
 
         Jr. High Self-Esteem Program:  Emphasize to the Jr. High kids how important they are and let them know that someone older is there for them if they need someone.
 
 
         Mentoring: Be positive role models at elementary or jr. high schools or programs. (Such as Big Brothers/ Big Sisters) You can also reach out to people in your high school.
 
 
         Check Health Curriculum: Ask you administration if your club could check the health curriculum and ensure that suicide and depression are addressed. Possibly make a presentation about suicide and depression to the class.
 
 
         Cards: Pass out cards at your school!
 
 
         Stickers: Hand out happy stickers emphasizing life.
 
 
         Pamphlets: Create pamphlets on how to help if you know or think someone is suicidal or what to do if you are having thoughts of suicide. 
 
 
         Public Service Announcements (PSA):  Talk to your local TV, radio, and/or newspaper and ask it your club can do a PSA on suicide. Also contact the Project Life Committee to check out video resources.
 
 
          "Who I Am Makes a Difference" Recognition Project: Ribbons that make people feel special!
 
 
         Help Directory:  List community contacts for all different types of problems-abuse, suicide & depression, eating disorders, ect.
 
 
         Project Life: Suicide Awareness Week:  Each day of the week has projects and agendas so that you may educate your school on this problem our generation is facing.
 
 
         (Fill in the Blank)-A-Thon for Life: Run, walk, dance, sing, do something! Have a contest to raise money for district or club Project Life projects and raise awareness at the same time.
 
 
         Ribbons:  Pass out Yellow Ribbons. 
 
 
         Teacher Awareness Retreat:  Educate your teachers about teen suicide and instruct them on how they can best help teens that are having problems.   This project is usually best coordinated by the Key Club, but put on and facilitated by trained adults.
